The First Baptism by Water

God also destroyed the armies of Egypt by water. This illustrates how God gives life by water; and destroys sin by water. Water is a cleansing agent that God uses to wash sin out of the lives of His people. First Corinthians, chapter 10, verse 1: Moreover, brethren, I would not have you ignorant, how that all our Fathers were under the cloud of (Jesus), and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea (this is a form of the water baptism). The children of Israel were forty years in the wilderness and were not sick nor did they die unless they sinned. Before they could enter into the promise land they had to pass through the river Jordan and be baptized again due to their sins of unbelief while in the wilderness. Joshua took the Ark (which represents Christ) and entered into the river Jordan as described in Joshua 3:13-17. God parted the waters and the children passed through. This was done for an example for us today that we must pass through the water baptism before we can inter the promise land.
In the book of Leviticus and Deuteronomy God shows the children of Israel about various laws concerning washings that the priest had to perform on themselves and on the sacrifices before they were offered to the Lord in the tabernacle. The laws as described in Leviticus are fulfilled when we are baptized in water to sanctify us. All through the Old Testament the priest and the prophets washed the sacrifice before offering it to the Lord.
First Kings, chapter 18 tells how Elijah washed his sacrifice with 16 barrels of water on the alter he built in front of the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of the groves, which ate at Jezebels table before God could honor His sacrifice by consuming it by fire from Heaven.
The sacrificial lamb for sin unto the Lord always had to be washed in water. This is the main reason why Jesus was baptized by John in the river Jordan as stated in St. John. The act of Jesus (the Lamb of God) being baptized by John fulfills the Old Testament Laws of washing the sacrifices before offering it to God for our sins.
St John, chapter 3:3 Jesus told Nicodemus (a ruler of the Jews) that except a man be born of water and of the spirit he cannot inter into the Kingdom of God. In verse 7 He said, marvel not that I say unto you must be born again.
